Zadie Smith is a British author known for her treatment of race, religion, and cultural identity in her novels and short stories. Her debut novel, White Teeth, immediately became a best-seller and won numerous awards. After publishing multiple other novels, Smith then became a tenured professor in the Creative Writing faculty of New York University in 2010.

Alice Walker

Alice Walker is an American novelist, short story writer, poet, and social activist. In 1982, she became the first African American woman to win the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction, which she was awarded for her novel The Color Purple, along with the National Book Award.

Emily Dickinson

Emily Dickinson is considered one of the most famous poets in the history of American literature. She published a few writings anonymously when she was alive, but after her death, Dickinson’s family discovered multiple books of poetry that she had written. Due to her more stream of consciousness writing and descriptive style, Emily Dickinson is known for changing poetry structure and writing.

Louisa May Alcott

Louisa May Alcott was an American novelist, short story writer, and poet best known for writing the novel Little Women. Her work introduced readers to educated strong female heroines, greatly impacting American literature. Little Women was an instant success and the book cemented Alcott as one of the foremost novelists of the 19th and early 20th century and is still studied in school literature today.
